Google Streets: Simply Incredible

Incredible, that's the word for the new googlemap-based system released by Google. Its name is Google Streets and with it you can see photos of the streets in certain places in the United States. Follow the link:

http://maps.google.com/help/maps/streetview/

To use it you must drag a doll on the blue marked streets so you can see the "360 degree" photo of that current street. You can zoom in and zoom out too.

So, enjoy it.

Changing Distro

Hi guys, I changed my distro this evening. I was using openSuSE 10.2 and now I'm using Ubuntu 7.04, a.k.a. Feisty Fawn, and now I'm happier since that ubuntu uses the package management system that I simply love: apt (aptitude as well, but the latter is a bit slower).

The only obstacle that was blocking me to use ubuntu since now was my modem, a smartlink softmodem (or winmodem), but this evening I discovered that I was failing in choosing the daemon to set up the modem. I was using the daemon that was shipped with the module. But I experimented using the sl-modem-daemon ubuntu package as deamon for my modem and it worked. Now I'm accessing internet very well.

Google Trends

Google Trends is a google application that shows lot of information about a search term. You can see a graph of search volume, news reference volume besides the top cities that most look for that term and so on. You can see the cities by region as well.

So, I put the "java" word in the text field and I got a surprise, Manaus, the city where I live, is in fifth place between the cities that most search by java word in Brazil:

Time Machine

Time Machine is a Mac OS X Leopard feature that allows you to navigate over the "history" of your files. The video below shows this feature in action:

As you can notice, Mac is made by artists.

There are softwares in Linux that seems like Mac Time Machine too, for example, ext3cow File System and Time Traveling File Manager.

Cleaning my del.icio.us

Yesterday I cleaned my del.icio.us and I got lot of surprises. Some of them was a "How To" teaching how to use advanced search in gmail. When I saw it I thought: "What hell is it doing here?", sincerely, I don't know why I added this web site in my del.icio.us.

Others, like http://www.dbexperts.com.br/replicacao/intro or http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/onlamp/..., show a subject that I needed months ago but now it's not important to me anymore: database replication.

I know that it seems a bit "crazy", like clean my bookmarks, but it's annoying seek for a bookmark, even if you use the del.icio.us firefox add-on, and find lot of trash a.k.a. "websites that you've never used or you won't use".
